PM’s visit to Gwadar lays foundation stone of 100 MW transmission line

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone of 100 MW Iran Makran transmission line in Gwadar. He announced to provide boat engines to fishermen and also a 100-bed hospital would be built.

According to Express News, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif arrived in Gwadar on a one-day visit. He was accompanied by Federal Ministers Asad Mahmood, Syed Naveed Qamar, Shahzain Bugti, Ahsan Iqbal, Agha Hassan Baloch, Khurram Dastgir, Minister of State Dr Musaddiq Malik, Special Assistants Tariq Fatemi and Syed Fahad Hussain.

Acting Governor Balochistan Jan Muhammad Jamali and Chief Minister Balochistan Abdul Qaddos Bizenjo along with provincial ministers received the Prime Minister.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister sponsored the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Gwadar Development Authority and Indus Hospital for a 100-bed international standard hospital in Gwadar. This international standard hospital in Gwadar will provide quality treatment facilities to the local people.

Indus Hospital will take over the management of the hospital soon after its completion. The people of Gwadar will no longer have to travel to major cities for treatment.

After visiting Gwadar Port, the Prime Minister met local fishermen at Gwadar Business Center. On this occasion, he announced to allocate 200 acres of land for the fishermen’s colony.

The Prime Minister also announced to provide boat engines to the fishermen and said that they would be provided engines on merit basis.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed to complete the ongoing development projects in Gwadar within the stipulated time and said that no further delay in water and power supply projects was acceptable.

He said that desalination plant of 1.2 million gallons per day in Gwadar should be completed soon and the system of pipelines for door-to-door supply of water should be improved immediately.

Shahbaz Sharif said that an inquiry should be held immediately to identify the culprits and criminal negligence in the projects and a report on the 62 MW solar project should be submitted within three weeks.

He said that for the solar project and the project to provide solar panels to the local population, the manufacture of solar panels in Pakistan should be ensured. He also directed to make a comprehensive plan for supply.

The Prime Minister directed that completion of Gwadar International Airport should be ensured by July 2023, international flights at Turbat and Quetta airports should be restored and fares should be reduced.

During his visit to Gwadar, he said that a strategy should be formulated for off-grid power projects across Balochistan and steps should be taken to improve internet facilities in Gwadar.

The current demand for water in Gwadar is 3.4 million gallons per day and the supply is 9 million gallons per day. After the 1.2 million gallon day plant at Gwadar Port Authority, its total capacity will be 1.5 million gallons per day. Along with this 9 small mobile plants will also be installed which will help in uninterrupted supply of water.

The meeting was informed that after the supply of 100 MW from Iran, the total power supply in Gwadar will reach 170 MW as against the current demand of only 70 MW. The supply of solar panels and off-grid projects will ensure uninterrupted power supply at the local level.

The transmission line from Iran to Makran will be completed by December 2022, while the transmission line will be completed by December 2022 for the supply of additional 100 MW from the national grid.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of the 100 MW Iran-Makran transmission line and said that the project would be completed in a few months which would improve the power supply.
