A significant step forward has been taken to enhance healthcare services at the Pak-China Friendship Hospital (PCFH) in Gwadar, as work commenced on January 11 to supply the facility with 2 MW of electricity. This power provision will enable the hospital to function at full capacity, ensuring that all medical departments and equipment operate seamlessly.

Speaking to Gwadar Pro, PCFH Deputy Manager of Administration, Nadir Ali Baloch, revealed that the initiative moved ahead after the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) approved a private firm to initiate infrastructure development following last month’s completion of the tendering process.

"The power supply will be routed through a dedicated feeder from the main grid station to guarantee uninterrupted electricity for the hospital," he explained. A GDA official further noted that, until now, the hospital had relied on costly diesel generators, consuming Rs. 2 million per month, due to the lack of a stable power source.

The official added that essential medical equipment remained inactive because of power constraints. Since opening its doors in June 2024, PCFH has offered free medical care to over 212,000 patients from Gwadar and surrounding regions, with a particular focus on women and children in emergency and outpatient services.

Constructed with Chinese funding under the CPEC framework, the hospital—built at a cost of $100 million—houses 150 beds, a fully equipped outpatient department, and has earned widespread appreciation from the local community.

Spread across 68 acres, PCFH was developed as part of the GDA Business Plan and features six primary blocks: medical, residential, nursing, paramedical institute, medical college, and central laboratory, alongside other essential medical and support facilities.

Following its completion, the hospital was handed over to the Gwadar Development Authority and is currently managed by the Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN), operating as a non-profit to serve the local population.
